Edit This!; Song of the Day – Better Than I Know Myself by Adam Lambert
Finishing the final edit on Flashback to the Dragon. It’s gone through personal editing, friend editing, and beta reader reviews, so its almost to the point where I feel confident handing it over to the publishing company.
Do you prefer to do editing on paper or an electronic device? I’m still with the paper and pen. I think I see the writing better that way. Something about the angle of a piece of paper compared to a computer screen. And there is nothing more satisfying than making your own piece bleed. Something about the feel of pen on paper is so much more fulfilling than clicking away at a keyboard.
I remember cut and paste days. I used to work for someone who was a champion of slashing through reports, rearranging words, sentences, paragraphs, and delineating all the changes with circles and arrows; arrows that would sometimes start at the top of a page and run all the way down, curling around words or sentences, and then point to the other side using the tiniest, ineligible handwriting. Retyping the reports gave me an incredible amount of training that I have used my entire life. Where others are confused or unable to read letters or instructions, I forge ahead confidently.
Technology does not scare me, I’ve ridden the wave my whole life learning new techniques and using new equipment, but I still prefer to keep things simple. So I sit here on the computer, soon to be staring at a piece of paper with my pen in my hand. I sip my coffee that I just poured out of my automatic coffee maker and I’m thinking that maybe switching to a coffee percolator would provide me with a better cup of coffee. Hmmm …
