E.T. by Katy Perry featuring Kanye West
I love that song. When I listen to the music and the words it opens up my mind to so many possibilities. I think the melody is exotic, and the words give me the feeling of forward motion, like anything is possible. It is the song behind my story.
I must apologize to anyone who may be viewing this blog, I’ve been remiss in maintaining a log about my year-long endeavor to publish a novel. Not that I haven’t been writing, just that I haven’t been blogging about it.
When I first created this blog, I envisioned I would sit in front of my PC like Julie/Julia talking about each day of writing like Amy Adams talked about each recipe she had tackled. I though her posts were funny as she described the trials and tribulations of boiling lobster, or releasing a perfect aspic from a mold. Writing is not quite like cooking, although I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time building a story and shaping it into a novel, so far all I have to show for it is a pile of paper. As the pile gets thicker, though, I must admit that I’m thrilled.
40,000 words into it adds up to a lot of paper and I’m really enjoying the ride on which my characters are taking me. My biggest fear is to have this story in my head and not be able to put the words on paper in anything resembling what I want to say. To fight the fear, I keep on adding to what has already built up and I’ve got a great feeling inside, so far so good!
I had a comment, thank you, and the person suggested I publish my grandmother’s poetry. Thank you for the suggestion and I will certainly work on that idea.
While I’m not going to promise I’ll be back tomorrow, I will promise to keep working on my novel and update the status when I take the time to blog. It’s been a learning experience that I have enjoyed. Cheers!
